We own and operate two gas networks:
- The ACT Region network that services the ACT, Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra, Googong and Bungendore
- The Nowra network that services Bomaderry and Nowra.
Jemena manages both gas networks for us, along with contractors, Zinfra, who maintain our infrastructure and provide field services.
Choose the right option for a gas connection, modification, or disconnection below. Information about prices are on our gas network prices page, along with information about the ACT Region and Nowra gas networks.
New connection
Note: Since 8 December 2023, new gas connections are prevented in some zones and buildings as per ACT Government regulation. More information is available on the ACT Government website. These changes do not apply in NSW.
Contact your energy retailer to arrange a new natural gas connection. Once your retailer submits a new natural gas connection application to us on your behalf, we will advise them within 10 business days if your connection is classified as either basic or negotiated. In the case of a basic connection, we will also provide your retailer with a connection offer.
You can also use the Jemena connections portal to apply for a gas connection or modify or remove an existing one. You will still need to contact your energy retailer to sign up to or change your gas plan.
Types of connections
Basic connection: a basic connection requires no extensions or modifications to the gas mains for an amount of up to 320MJ per hour (indicatively a cook-top, room heating and a hot water system). We do not charge for this service under our model standing offer for basic connection.
Non-basic connection: a non-basic connection is available where the site requirements for a basic connection service are not satisfied. For example, if the property is on a major road or there are unusual site conditions.
Negotiated connection: all new connections over 320 MJ per hour or which require mains extension are classified as negotiated. Our Negotiation framework has more information.
Disconnection
Permanent disconnection
If you want to switch your home from gas to electricity and no longer require gas at your premise – you should arrange a permanent disconnection. A permanent disconnection should also be arranged for building demolitions. This can be arranged in the Jemena connections portal.
Permanent disconnections are the safest option as it removes unused gas from your home, and it also means your premises will no longer require maintenance and routine checking.
We charge $862 (exc. GST) for the permanent disconnection of a regular gas residential meter. Charges for larger gas meters differ. See our gas network prices. Your gas retailer may charge a higher amount when passing on Evoenergy’s charge.

Temporary disconnection
A temporary disconnection can be arranged through your energy retailer if you need to disconnect from gas for a short period. This method should only be used if you plan to reconnect gas in the short-term future as pressurised gas will remain on your premises.
We charge $168 (exc. GST) for the temporary disconnection for a regular gas residential meter and $57 (exc. GST) for a reconnection. Charges for larger gas meters differ. See our gas network prices. Your gas retailer may charge a higher amount when passing on Evoenergy’s charge.
