Apprenticeship applications are closed until June 2025, at which time recruitment for the 2026 cohort will commence.

Our apprenticeship program provides a financially supported and structured training pathway to complete your Certificate lll in Electrotechnology.

We value collaborative, self-starting, and energetic safety champions who will help us build Canberra’s future network.

The program

The apprentice program runs for four years, and we offer positions for electrical fitters, lineworkers, and cable jointers. During your time with us, you will work alongside our skilled crews who will provide coaching and mentorship to support your journey.

Electrical Fitter Apprenticeship

Electrical Fitter

 

As an Electrical Fitter apprentice, you will:

  • Perform substation maintenance
  • Build substations to support new infrastructure around Canberra
  • Connect new customers with power
  • Re-connect power to existing customers

Lineworker Apprenticeship

Lineworker

 

As a Lineworker apprentice, you will:

  • Install or relocate power poles and wires
  • Maintain Evoenergy’s existing overhead network
  • Assist customers in the connection/disconnection of overhead services
  • Investigate & repair overhead faults to restore supply when a power outage occurs

Cable Jointer Apprenticeship

Cable Jointer

 

As a Cable Jointer apprentice, you will:

  • Install low voltage & high voltage underground cables
  • Install and maintain pits, pillars, substations and other electrical equipment
  • Identify damage and perform required repairs to underground power cables
  • Perform routine maintenance to underground power cables

How to apply

Eligibility

An applicant must have:

  • completed Year 12, TAFE qualification equivalent, or relevant work experience
  • a current Australian driver’s licence
  • previous experience working in a team-based role and/or evidence of teamwork outside of work (e.g., extra-curricular activities, sporting teams, social groups)
  • passion for driving positive safety behaviour

The process

Here’s what to expect when you apply for the apprenticeship program:

  1. Application: resume, and cover letter addressing the eligibility criteria
  2. First stage: online video interview
  3. Second stage:
    • Personality questionnaire and job-related abilities assessment
    • Face-to-face assessment centre and interview
  4. Pre-employment screening: reference check, medical assessment and police check
  5. Offer of employment
