Storm response update | Saturday 9th December 9 AM
On Friday 8 December 2023 at around 8.00pm, Canberra experienced a fast-moving storm resulting in extensive damage to our electricity network.
At the height of the storm, we had around 14,000 properties without power across the ACT, and as of 8.00am 9 December 2023, 800 customers remain without power. We are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible, however expect some properties will remain without power until tomorrow, or Monday.
Today our priority is working with our vegetation contractors to remove trees from powerlines so our crews can repair the network. We will be providing updates on restorations as they become available.
If you see fallen powerlines or damaged electrical equipment – stay at least 10 metres away from them or anything they’re touching – including fences. If you’re unsure if they’ve been reported, call us on 13 10 93.
We understand there are high temperatures forecast in Canberra today and we’re heavily focused on the safety of the community, as well as our crews who are out working in the community. We ask those without power to consider relocating or look to the ACT Emergency Services Agency for guidance on safety during today’s heat.
Customers who are life support registered should consider enacting their Device Emergency Management Plan. For some customers this might mean relocating to a hospital.
We have cancelled planned works today as we focus on restoring the damage from last night.
Thank you to the community for your patience and ongoing support, and for reporting network damage. More information on www.evoenergy.com.au/outages.
