Our Customer Delivery Works Manager and his little vampire are here to remind you to check your home for energy vampires this spooky season!
But wait, what’s an energy vampire we hear you asking?!
An ‘energy vampire’ refers to devices in your home that continue to use energy and suck power, even when they’re turned off or sitting in idle.
Let's take a look through your home and to find those pesky little energy vampires so you can unplug them or replace them with newer models. Higher efficiency levels mean more savings on your energy bill.
Every wall outlet that has an asset plugged in, is drawing electricity out. Although your TV might be switched off, it remains on standby ready to receive a signal to be turned back on at any time.
So, what’s actually at ** stake ** here?
Some of the most common vampires in your home might include:
- Televisions & Radios
- Kettles, Toasters & Coffee machines
- Video game consoles
- Wireless routers & Smart speakers (such as your google home)
- Microwaves
- Lamps
- Washing machines and Dryers
** Holy water ** won’t get rid of these vampires though!
Where possible, you should turn off appliances at the wall, unplug chargers that aren’t in use and make sure you check the energy efficiency rating for any new appliances you’re buying.
If you’re interested in doing an energy safety check at you place, download Evoenergy’s energy safety checklist.
Don’t ** bite ** off more than you can chew though, it’s still important to be safe around electricity in your homes.

- Unplug overloaded power points and test smoke alarms.

Stay safe Canberra and avoid a ** grave situation ** this Halloween.
