Evoenergy acknowledges the significant disruption caused by yesterday afternoon’s electricity outage across the Gungahlin region and thanks the community for its patience and understanding.

The outage commenced at 2:59pm and affected 36,783 customers supplied from the Gold Creek Zone Substation. Power was restored to all customers by 3:49pm.

Evoenergy responded with all available resources to identify the fault and safely restore power as quickly as possible.

The outage also affected other services in the area including traffic lights, light rail services, telecommunications, and some community facilities. Some customers experienced phone and internet service disruptions during the outage period, and some were unable to get through to our Faults and Emergency Contact Centre.

Our website also experienced issues due to a high number of people trying to access outage information at the same time.

Evoenergy is aware of speculation on social media that the outage may have been caused by a cyber incident. Evoenergy can confirm this was not a cyber incident.

The outage was caused by a fault at the Gold Creek Zone Substation, which is a key piece of infrastructure supplying electricity to the Gungahlin region. Due to the location of the fault, a larger number of customers were impacted than in a typical local outage.

The cause of the fault is being investigated.
